ADatation (2022)

Presented as a pre-recorded audiovisual work, ADatation is the result of two independent collaborative processes: a real-time performance of interactive sound, visuals, and movement, and the subsequent non-real-time destructive editing of that performance. The initial piece is created through online exchanges between the dancer and musician authors, making use of captured movement data to manipulate sonic and visual media. The captured media are then post-edited through glitch aesthetic processes. The arrangement of the edits reflects each author’s timeline of experienced communication glitches over the past twelve months condensed to the work’s nine-minute duration. Each type of disruption is assigned to a particular type of destructive process, implemented independently for sound, visuals, and dance. The original performance’s normality morphs into an arrangement of glitches, with the final work being a product of distanced collaboration, simultaneously real-time and non-real-time, online and offline.

Bacterial biofilm (2018)

This video shows a virtual reality tour of a real bacterial biofilm experiment. The green fluorescent bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 labelled with GFP) was grown on glass slides for 24 hrs before being treated with antibiotics and propidium iodide (a dye that stains dead bacterial cells red). Images of the biofilm were taken using confocal laser scanning microscopy. Each layer was stacked together to create a 3D image. Each pixel appears as a square block, creating a "MINECRAFT-like" bacterial landscape. This video was created by an interdisciplinary team of microbiologists, computer scientists and creative technologists.
