Citizen Science Showcase

The SciComm Space invites you to take part in a citizen science showcase, to celebrate and get involved in developing a Northern Network of Citizen Scientists. The event offers the opportunity to showcase your project, get Northern participants involved and excited about the potential of citizen science over a fun weekend as part of The Manchester Science Festival.

The Proposition

Over the weekend of Sat 21 and Sun 22 October 2017, we’d love you to come along and set up stall to showcase your citizen science project as part of The Salford Science Jam. See the VIDEO below. The event runs from 11-4pm and, over the course of the weekend, you will have the chance to talk to and engage the public in your work and get involved in a peer-to-peer sharing with citizen science peers. We are really keen for participating projects to include both scientists and non-science experts from the project.

The event takes place at our amazing Media City building, home to the BBC, ITV, the Lowry theatre, and many other cultural organizations in the heart of Salford and a tram ride away from Manchester city centre. You'll have the opportunity to share and learn from practice and we'll document the event with you to share further.

Just to reinforce, it’s really crucial that you are able to host a stand for people to participate in your project(s) and be set up from 10am, ready to welcome the public at 11am through til 4pm on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October, 2017. We can also help you out with some volunteers over the weekend. Just let us know when you sign up.

We hope that this event will be a way to establish a Northern Network of Citizen Scientists who can work more closely together, and encourage learning from across the UK.

Deadline: please complete this Google form by 31 August 2017, but the sooner the better!

Note: the showcase is being organised by Salford Scicomm Space, including Dr Erinma Ochu, a pioneer in citizen science and lecturer in science communication and future media at Salford University. If you 'd like to chat through your project or any requirements, drop her an email e.e.ochu@salford.ac.uk to arrange a call.
